Description
Tan House Chapel is a single-storey building with a square plan, constructed in 1854 as a Welsh Calvinistic Methodist chapel. The exterior is rendered and features incised mock ashlar blocks, a low plinth, wide boarded eaves, and a slate roof. The central entrance is located behind an enclosed timber porch, with a door made of narrow boards and an arched head. On either side of the entrance are pointed-arch windows with plain large-pane glazing, and the left side has a taller arched window with a tracery head. The rear elevation includes two eight-pane sash windows with slightly cambered heads.
The chapel is complemented by forecourt railings and a gate, which are spear-headed and set on a low rubble plinth. Inside, there is a gallery above the entry with a raked underside, supported by two squared posts. The gallery features a panelled front with chamfered stiles and a moulded top rail. The interior also includes a low panelled pulpit, with flanking steps that have turned balusters, and a matchboarded dado. A stone plaque above the porch reads: "Tan House Chapel Welsh Calvinistic Methodist erected 1854. Reverence my Sanctuary I am the Lord."
