Description
Llysin is a building dating from around 1800, consisting of two storeys and a single range with an integral stable at the west end. It features a rubble stone plinth and weatherboarded walls, with a slate roof on the house and a tin roof on the stable. The building has an end stack to the right with a brick upper section. There are two boarded doors, the left one having a glazed panel, and small-paned casement windows.
The adjoining stable has similar heavy pegged stud walls with diagonal bracing, boarded partition trusses, and a flagstone floor. The loft floor is made of rough poles, and the partition truss includes angle braces above the tie-beam. The rear of the chimney stack is exposed in the stable, and the first-floor end wall of the house is constructed around the offset of the stack, with boards set over studwork. Next to the stack is a pegged and bolted shouldered king-post truss.
The original layout includes a lobby entry plan with a hall and two inner rooms, one of which has a separate external entrance. The stud walls have diagonal braces interrupting the studs. The partition between the two inner rooms in the end bay features square panel framing with woven lath infill. There is a massive internal rubble stack with a large open fireplace in the main room, which has a chamfered timber lintel with scroll stops and a bread oven. The building also has a chamfered axial beam with scroll stops and exposed joists. Quarter-turn stairs rise through the inner room, accessed via the corner of the main room. The floors are made of stone flags throughout, and there are beaded plank doors. The window frames have chamfered mullions.
