Description
Fair View is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with a front added in the early 19th century and some later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble, rendered and colourwashed, topped with a slate roof featuring ridge coping and brick gable stacks, one of which is rendered. It has a 2-room plan with a narrow central passage that contains a straight stair leading to the rear. Each room is heated by gable end stacks, with the right-hand room serving as the kitchen.
At the rear of the right-hand end is a wing that was formerly used as stables, which includes a loft above that has been converted into living accommodation, likely from the late 19th century. There is a single-storey outhouse attached to the front left. The house is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 16-pane sashes set in exposed boxes. The ground floor features two similar sashes with relieving arches and a central six-panelled door topped with a triangular hood.
The left return of the building has an external stack, while the right return features an external stack with a semi-circular oven projection to the right and a 20th-century single light window. The lower two-storey rear wing, which was formerly a stable on the ground floor with living accommodation above, has two windows at the first floor, each with 8-pane two-light casements. The ground floor includes a four-panelled plain door and a 20th-century two-light casement, with the door originally located in a wider stable entry, and a ridge stack.
Additionally, there is a range of three small single-storey outhouses attached to the right, featuring corrugated iron and slate roofs with varied openings. Inside, the ground floor has a slate floor throughout, and the room on the right has a blocked fireplace, while the oven is not visible.
