Description

The Sleman and Stephens monuments are two headstones located in the churchyard about 8 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St Peter in Lamerton. These headstones date from the 18th century and are made of slate.

The headstone for William Sleman, dated 1761, features a nowy head with a moulded edge, a carved primitive skull and crossed bones, and fine lettering. The headstone for John Stephens, dated 1789, has a scrolled top with a raised edge, pilasters with tripartite capitals on the sides, and a cherub's head with wings at the top, along with good lettering.
