Description
Cae'r Llechau is a house with an attached stable, built in the 19th century. The structure is made of local rubble, roughcast, and lime render, topped with slate roofs. The house is a long, two-storey building with a two-window front and gable-end stacks. The central doorway is flanked by 12-pane sash windows, while the upper windows are 2-pane sashes, which are the original sashes but have had their glazing bars removed. To the left, there is a single-storey kitchen wing featuring a split boarded door on the right and a small window on the left. The left gable end has a high stack.
To the right of the house, there is a former cart-house and stable range with a lower roof-line. This section has a cambered timber lintel above the cart entry on the left, followed by external stone steps leading to a loft with paired doors in a raking dormer that cuts through the eaves. There is a small loft window on the right above a split boarded stable doorway. Beyond this is a lower range that was used as an out-kitchen or dairy, which still has a stack on the front roof slope at the gable end and a small gable-end window with timber slats below a glazed upper light.
The rear elevation features two 4-pane sash windows on the ground floor and three windows above. The left and centre windows are renewed 12-pane sashes, with the central stair window having a lower sill. The right-hand window is a 4-pane sash, likely altered from its original design.
Inside, the house has a two-room plan with a central staircase that is slightly offset from the doorway. The left room contains a large fireplace with a timber lintel. The roof has two bolted collar trusses. The former dairy or out-kitchen retains slate slabs and some wall tiling. A date of 1845 is scratched into the plaster torching of the roof.
