Description

This is a dovecote located about 20 yards north of Hellens, with the date "1641/ W / FM" inscribed on the west side. It is constructed of brick with plaster quoins and string courses, topped with a tiled roof and a wooden glover. The dovecote has an octagonal shape and features two almost continuous string courses, along with square and diamond patterns in the brickwork. The south side has a chamfered four-centred doorway, above which is an inserted 18th century or early 19th century segmentally-headed window that interrupts the lower string course. Inside, there are remains of the bottom part of the potence, and about 20 rows of sawn-off tenons suggest that there were projecting nesting ledges instead of hollowed-out nests.
