Description

This barn, located about 40 yards west of Great Moorcourt Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some later additions. It features a rubble plinth and is timber-framed, weatherboarded, with a brick rear wall and an extension on the right side. The roof is tiled and the barn has eight bays running north to south.

On the east elevation, which faces Great Moorcourt Farmhouse, there are opposed two-leaved ledged doors leading to the threshing floors in the third bays from each end. Beneath the eaves, there are woven ventilator panels extending from the left end to the right threshing floor. To the left gable, there is a lean-to brick extension, likely from the early 20th century. The rear wall has been significantly repaired in brick, and the right-hand gable features ventilator slits.

Inside, most trusses have diagonal struts connecting the ties to the principals or three vertical posts from the ties to the collars, which support V-struts. The truss on the left side of the right threshing floor has multiple scissor struts running parallel to the principals. This barn, along with the Farmhouse and the adjacent cow house, forms a cohesive farmyard at Great Moorcourt.
