Description

MUCH MARCLE CP - SO 63 SE

8/42 The Croft

  • II

House. Probably late C17 to early C18, roof raised in late C18 to early C19 and extended in late C19. Timber-frame, brick and plaster infill with brick extension to right clad to resemble timber-framing, continuous tiled roof, external stone stack to left gable and right of front side, both rendered with detached brick shafts. Two structural bays aligned east/ west. Two storeys. Four windows, 2-light late C20 casements, three to left of front stack and one to its right; one to left of roughly central late C20 gabled porch with entry in left side. Frame is four panels high from cill to wall-plate with angle struts to corner posts and posts dividing the two bays. Left gable has exposed trenched purlins of former roof. Interior: C17 ledged door to upper left principal room; two panelled cup- boards in left ground floor room, one either side of end hearth, are probably late C17 to early C18; roof trusses have V-struts from collars. The C19 extension probably replaced a timber-framed bay to the right since the front side stack remains.
