Description

The Croft is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. The roof was raised in the late 18th century to early 19th century, and the house was extended in the late 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick and plaster infill, and a brick extension on the right that is designed to look like timber framing. The house has a continuous tiled roof and external stone stacks on the left gable and to the right of the front side, both of which are rendered with detached brick shafts.

The building consists of two structural bays aligned east to west and stands two storeys tall. There are four windows, which are 2-light late 20th century casements, with three located to the left of the front stack and one to its right. To the left of a roughly central late 20th century gabled porch, which has an entry on the left side, there is another window. The frame has four panels high from the cill to the wall-plate, with angle struts connecting to the corner posts and posts dividing the two bays. The left gable reveals exposed trenched purlins from the former roof.

Inside, there is a 17th century ledged door leading to the upper left principal room. The left ground floor room contains two panelled cupboards, one on either side of the end hearth, which are likely from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The roof trusses feature V-struts from the collars. The 19th century extension probably replaced a timber-framed bay on the right side, as indicated by the remaining front side stack.
