Description
The gate piers and railings located about 16 yards west of the Methodist Chapel were built around 1865. They consist of square ashlar piers with brick panels on the sides and pyramidal caps. The piers flank a central gateway and also mark the outer ends of the railings. The cast iron railings, featuring spearheads, rest on a shallow brick base with ashlar coping and extend about eight yards on either side of the central gateway. The central cast iron gates match the design of the railings. Additionally, a large gateway has been added at the southern end of the railings, which also reflects the same detailing as the main railings. These gate piers and railings are a prominent feature of the main west front of the Methodist Chapel and were part of its original layout. They are included for their group value.
