Description
The gate piers, walls, gates, and railings in front of the United Methodist Free Church date from 1865, as indicated by the datestone on the chapel. They are constructed from dressed granite and granite rubble, featuring iron railings and gates. The gate piers are square in plan, with two entrances: a wide carriage entrance on the left, which is set back and has concave quadrant walls, and a wide gateway that aligns with the chapel's doorway. This latter gateway is flanked by low ashlar plinths and has terminal piers at each end. The principal piers have monolithic shafts and moulded caps topped with squat pyramidal heads. The railings are adorned with fleur-de-lys finials, and on the right side, the rubble walls are capped with granite. The 20th-century railings may have been inspired by the original design.
