Description
Crellow House is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is built of stucco with a grouted scantle slate hipped roof, featuring wide eaves over the main section and a replacement asbestos slate roof over the former service wing. The house has stuccoed chimneys with 19th-century octagonal clay pots. The main house has a rectangular, double-depth plan with two reception rooms flanking a central hall, which leads to a stair hall between the rear rooms. A deep service wing adjoins the house at the rear left corner, and is now a separate dwelling.
The north front is approximately five windows wide. The right-hand part of the front is symmetrical and three windows wide, with a central doorway. The front features a plinth, moulded hoods on consoles at ground-floor level, a mid-floor band, and giant Doric pilasters at the corners. The ground-floor openings have pairs of late 19th or early 20th-century French windows, with original overlights featuring marginal panes. The first floor has original four-pane horned sashes. The rear elevation includes a tall, original stair sash with glazing bars and a fanlight head.
The interior was not fully inspected, but the stair hall retains an original open-well, open string staircase with stick balusters.
