3/45 Lych gate about 10 yards south of the Church of St John the Baptist

GV II

Lych gate. Possibly C14 or C15 with early C20 extensions and restoration. Sandstone plinth, timber-framed and stone slate roof, half-hipped by virtue of C20 extensions to north and south. One bay aligned north/south. Moulded corner posts to tie-beams which have hollowed out soffits to form, in con- junction with curved braces, round-headed openings; chamfered wall-plates and one purlin to each slope of the roof (RCHM Vol I, p 178).
