PIXLEY CP POOLEND COURTYARD Nos. 1 to 4 Former Dovecote, cart shed and granary attached to north end of former Poolend Farmhouse

(Formerly listed as Dovecote, cart shed and granary attached to north end of Poolend Farmhouse, PIXLEY)

GV II Former dovecote, cart shed and granary. Probably largely C18 with C19 alterations. Sandstone rubble, timber-frame, brick and tiled roof with brick stacks. Long rectangular range aligned north-east/south-west. Two storeys. South-east elevation: seven windows, 2-light casement to left with the remaining six being openings to granary and dovecote; to right of centre are five panels of exposed timber-framing at first-floor level with four rows of nesting-holes, raking-top dormer entry to upper floor at the head of tallet stairs under which is a ledged door and dog kennel both with semi-circular heads; ledged cart entries to right, domestic part to left may be laundry or kitchen. Forms part of the farm complex to former Poolend Farmhouse (qv). (RCHM Vol II, p 155).
