Description

The former dovecote, cart shed, and granary are attached to the north end of the former Poolend Farmhouse. This structure likely dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is built from sandstone rubble, timber-frame, and has a brick and tiled roof with brick stacks. The building is a long rectangular range oriented north-east to south-west and consists of two storeys.

On the south-east elevation, there are seven windows; a 2-light casement window is located to the left, while the remaining six openings serve the granary and dovecote. To the right of the centre, there are five panels of exposed timber-framing at the first-floor level, featuring four rows of nesting-holes. A raking-top dormer entry leads to the upper floor, which is accessed by tallet stairs. Beneath this, there is a ledged door and a dog kennel, both with semi-circular heads. Ledged cart entries are located to the right, while the domestic part on the left may have served as a laundry or kitchen. This building is part of the farm complex associated with the former Poolend Farmhouse.
