Description

Dovecote Farmhouse and the attached granary is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and features a slate roof with brick end stacks. The building is designed in an L-shape, with two storeys and an attic, and has a four-window range. The main front faces the garden and includes a door set in a re-entrant angle, which is framed by a moulded Tudor-arched stone surround with cut spandrels.

To the left of the door, the main range has two-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, each with moulded stone sills and flat-arched heads. Above the door, there is a single-light window with a similar sill and head. A sun fire insurance plaque is located above the middle window on the first floor. The projecting wing features three-light casement windows on both floors, replacing pairs of windows that were similar to those in the main range. There is also a single-light window on the ground floor to the right, which has a stone sill and flat-arched head. The gable end of this wing includes a pair of one-light attic windows, each with moulded stone surrounds and hood moulds.

The exterior displays chamfered plinths, quoins, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The attached granary, located to the right of the projecting wing, is built from coursed limestone rubble and has a corrugated asbestos roof. It features a stone-coped gable with kneelers at the far right end and is accessed by nine stone steps leading to a plank loft door, which has a chamfered wood surround and wood lintel. Inside the farmhouse, there are diamond stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a diamond-stop-chamfered cambered bressumer, along with another open fireplace that has chamfered stone jambs.
