Description
This barn, dating from the early 18th century, is located approximately 18 meters north-east of Tregate Castle Farmhouse. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a corrugated metal roof. The barn has a rectangular plan oriented north-east to south-west and consists of five bays. It includes a central threshing floor that originally had short wooden slatted vents below the lintel, along with two rows of loop vents. The gable end displays a symmetrical arrangement of five tiers. The interior is supported by collar-and-tie-beam trusses with inclined struts and three pairs of purlins. This barn is part of a farmyard group that includes a larger threshing barn located further to the north-east of Tregate Castle Farmhouse.
