Description
This cowhouse, located about 50 yards north of Hanley Court, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a pantiled roof. The building consists of five structural bays arranged in a north-east to south-west orientation and has two levels.
On the south-east elevation, there are three segmentally-headed doorways with ledged doors and three ventilation slits. A plat band runs along this elevation, and there are three segmentally-headed openings leading to the loft, with raised verges at the gables. The north-west elevation includes stairs leading to the loft from the north.
Inside, the cowhouse has an alternating system of trusses, with pegged raking struts connecting the ties to the principals. The alternate trusses feature angle struts that support tie-beams from the floor beams. The gable facing the road displays a lozenge pattern created by burnt headers.
