Description
The cowhouse, located approximately 20 meters northeast of Old Hall Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid-18th century and has undergone minor later alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame and red brick infill, sitting on a high brick plinth, and features a roof made of graded slate and corrugated iron. The framing consists of rectangular panels with air vents, two of which extend from the high cill to the wall-plate, supported by long straight tension braces. The structure has collar and tie beam end trusses, with plank doors on the left and right and eaves hatches adjacent to them. Above the plinth, there are two tiers of fixed-light windows, with the upper tier positioned directly below the eaves. Inside, the cowhouse has a single-purlin roof divided into three bays, featuring raking struts connecting the tie beam to the principal rafters and the lower tie beam. There are also 19th-century cowstalls present. The building is included for its group value with the nearby Old Hall Farmhouse.
