Description

The Old Rectory is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and further changes in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with sections of painted brick and rendered infill, a sandstone plinth, and brick stacks with detached brick shafts. The south front has been refaced in brick, and there are later brick additions. The roof is covered with concrete tiles from the 20th century.

The building has an L-plan layout, with a wing aligned east to west facing south, and an adjoining wing aligned north to south at the west end. The entrance is centrally located on the south front, with a gable-end stack on the north-south wing and an additional lateral stack at the rear of the east-west wing. There are further additions to the east.

The house is one and a half stories tall, with a single-storey extension added later to the east. The south front features a gable-end on the left with an irregular-shaped casement window in the gable to the left of the stack, and a three-light casement window to the right on the ground floor. To the right, there are two gabled half-dormers with two-light casement windows, and two three-light windows with segmental heads to the right of a canopied porch that has a part-glazed door. A further window is located in the single-storey extension to the right. The framing in the north-south wing is largely intact, showing two square panels from the sill to the wall-plate. The building was formerly known as Pomona Corner Cottage.
