Description

The Grantham Canal milepost, located approximately 350 metres south-east of Main Street in Kinoulton, is a late 18th-century cast-iron post. It features a rounded top and moulded edges, with raised letters that read "12 MILES FROM THE TRENT." The number 12 is displayed on a riveted-on plate. The canal was authorized in 1793, and this section was constructed by James Green, a surveyor employed by Lord Middleton of Wollaton Hall.
