Description
The Grantham Canal milepost, located approximately 350 metres north of Irish Jack's Bridge, is a late 18th-century cast-iron post. It features a rounded top and moulded edges, with raised letters that read "11 MILES FROM THE TRENT." The number 11 is painted on the post. The canal was authorized in 1793, and this section was constructed by Surveyor James Green, who was employed by Lord Middleton of Wollaton Hall.
