Description
The Grantham Canal milepost, located approximately 200 metres south-west of Wild's Bridge, dates from the late 18th century. This cast-iron post features a rounded top and moulded edges, with raised letters that read: "10¾ MILES FROM THE TRENT." The figure "10¾" is displayed on a riveted-on plate. The canal was authorized in 1793, and this section was constructed by James Green, a surveyor working for Lord Middleton of Wollaton Hall.
