Description
The Grantham Canal milepost, located approximately 200 metres east of Clark's Bridge, is a late 18th century cast-iron post. It features a rounded top and a moulded edge, with raised letters that read "14¼ MILES FROM THE TRENT." The figure "14¼" is displayed on a riveted-on plate. The canal was authorized in 1793, and this section was constructed by James Green, who was the Surveyor employed by Lord Middleton of Wollaton Hall.
