Description
89-91 West Gate is a pair of houses built around 1800, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The structure is made of coursed squared stone, featuring a rendered and painted ground floor, painted stone dressings, and a slate roof with a single ridge and gable stone stacks. The building has quoins, an eaves band, and projecting surrounds around the windows and doors.
It stands three storeys high and has a three-window range. Near the center, there is a round-headed glazing bar stair window with a keystone and imposts, flanked by two twelve-pane sash windows. Above these are smaller nine-pane sash windows. Below the stair window is a round-arched doorcase with a keystone and imposts, which contains a late 20th-century panelled door and a plain fanlight. To the left, there is a reglazed window and a similar doorcase with a late 20th-century half-glazed door and plain fanlight. To the right, an altered window has a late 20th-century door and fanlight inserted. The left return features a plain sash window, with a two-light mullioned casement above it, and below, there is a window and door.
