Description
Darfoulds Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse that was refronted in the early 19th century and altered for use as colliery offices from around 1876 to 1950. The building is constructed of coursed squared rubble with ashlar dressings and features a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof. It has a single gable and two ridge stacks.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of seven bays, including a two-bay addition on the right. It has an L-shaped plan. The front of the house features an off-centre ashlar doorcase with a 19th-century gabled timber porch. To the left of the door are two glazing bar sash windows, and to the right are four similar windows. On the upper floor, there are seven more sash windows, and above these, three gabled dormers with small glazing bar sashes, one of which is a dummy.
To the right, there is a single-storey service wing made of coursed squared rubble with a pantile roof, which includes a door and a single plain sash window to the right. The rear wing has three bays and features irregular 19th- and 20th-century fenestration.
