Description
Fortress House and Barn is an early 19th-century farmhouse located in Awre. The building features squared and coursed sandstone rubble gables and a Welsh slate roof. It has a long, shallow layout with a barn on the left, which is incorporated but likely added later. The house has gable stacks, with one off-centre at the ridge. It is two storeys high and has four wide-spaced, well-proportioned 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, all set under stone lintels. There is a new door leading to a late 19th-century porch, positioned left of centre. At the back, there are small two-light casements and another new door. The barn extension on the left is two storeys high, while a long low wing extends to the right.
