SK 67 NW WORKSOP CLUMBER LANE

4/49 Trumans Lodge and gateway 13.2.67 II

Pair of lodges and gateway. 1789. Ashlar, brick and render with plain tile roofs. Plinth, eaves band, projecting quoins, stepped, pedimented coped gables. 2 gable and single rear wall stacks. Single storey plus attics, 3 bays. Matching lodges have projecting central bay with segmental headed door in blocked surround with keystones. Flanked by single segmental headed mullioned and transomed casements with keystones. Above, central casement and above again, circular panel containing draped Arms and inscription '1789'. Rear elevations similar. Beyond, gabled C19 addition. West lodge has, to left, a pair of ramped, coped flanking walls, coursed squared rubble. Central overthrow has round headed arch with impost band and keystones. Above, cornice and coped crenellated parapet. Canted extruded corners have single round headed niches.
