Description
Trumans Lodge and Gateway is a pair of lodges and a gateway built in 1789. The structure is made of ashlar, brick, and render, topped with plain tile roofs. It features a plinth, an eaves band, projecting quoins, and stepped, pedimented coped gables. The building has two gable stacks and a single rear wall stack. It is a single storey with attics and consists of three bays. The matching lodges have a projecting central bay with a segmental-headed door in a blocked surround, which includes keystones. On either side of the door are single segmental-headed casements with mullions and transoms, also featuring keystones. Above the central casement is a circular panel that contains draped arms and the inscription '1789'. The rear elevations are similar to the front. To the rear, there is a gabled 19th-century addition. The west lodge has, to the left, a pair of ramped, coped flanking walls made of coursed squared rubble. The central overthrow features a round-headed arch with an impost band and keystones. Above this, there is a cornice and a coped crenellated parapet. The corners are canted and extruded, each with a single round-headed niche.
