Description

Lion Lodge is a pair of lodges, now functioning as a single lodge, built around 1800 with 20th-century alterations. The structure is made of colourwashed brick, featuring some ashlar dressings. It has octagonal roofs covered in plain tiles, with moulded brick eaves and central stacks. The left stack is made of stock brick, while the right is made of red brick, both adorned with ashlar dressings. There is also a single tall stack at the rear.

The lodges are octagonal in shape and positioned side by side, connected by a single straight bay, with a low 20th-century addition at the rear. The left lodge has a central doorway in the southern bay, which is framed by slender pilasters and an entablature, leading to a studded plank door. To the left of the doorway, there are two windows in angled bays; one features a fixed glazing bar window with a traceried semi-circular head, while the other is a two-light casement. On the right side of the doorway, there is a single window in an angled bay set in a semi-circular recess that does not quite reach the ground, with a fixed glazing bar window and a traceried semi-circular head.

The lodges are joined by a small straight wall on the right, which has a narrow, fixed semi-circular headed window with glazing bars. The central doorway of the right lodge is blind and has a semi-circular head, flanked by two windows in semi-circular headed recesses with glazing bars. The left window is fixed, while the right is a casement, both featuring traceried semi-circular heads. The east side of the right lodge has two two-light casements with glazing bars.
