Description
Clumber Park House, The Duke's Study and bow corridor, is the only remaining part of Clumber Park House, built around 1880 by Charles Barry Junior for the Duke of Newcastle. The structure is made of ashlar and brick, topped with a hipped slate roof. It features a plinth, string courses, dentillated eaves, a cornice, and a coped parapet, along with a single rear wall stack. The building is a single storey with five bays. The main south front is canted and has two central fixed lights flanked by single French windows. Above these, there are four semi-circular recesses with moulded soffits and reeded keystones. The bow corridor on the left has a moulded ashlar doorway, while the right side has two plain sash windows. The east front features a projecting bay with a central moulded ashlar doorway on the left and two glazing bar sashes on the right. Above this, to the left, is a rectangular recessed panel with an ashlar surround.
Inside, at each end, there is a margin stiled door. The north wall has a central timber fireplace supported by Ionic columns, with a reeded frieze and a moulded cornice. The interior also includes a moulded cornice and frieze that contains the original wallpaper.
