Description
This pair of lodges, dating from the mid-18th century and likely designed by J. James, is located flanking the North Drive of Welbeck Abbey. Constructed from ashlar, the lodges feature an embattled parapet with a moulded band that conceals the roof line. The south lodge has a single central stack and both lodges are set on a plinth with a rectangular plan. Each lodge is a single storey and single bay, with a projecting bay on each side. The south lodge has a doorway with a stable door, while the north lodge features a double wooden door. Both doorways are adorned with arched over-panels that have a single central cusp and a raised band, leading to an ogee arch with a finial. The rear face of the lodges includes a single arched glazing bar sash in a similar surround, and each road-facing bay is flanked by single quatrefoil fixed lights.
