Description
The strong room, built around 1870, is located on the north side of Woodyard Road in the Welbeck Estate Village. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate roof with coped gables, kneelers, and mannerist style orb finials. The building has a moulded eaves band and is set on a plinth. It is one and a half storeys tall and consists of five bays. The central bay projects and is topped with a gable.
The entrance is a central arched doorway with a pair of decorative double doors, surrounded by a vermiculated rusticated frame and a keystone. This doorway is flanked by single vermiculated rusticated pilasters that support an entablature with two similar half finials. On either side of the doorway are two glazing bar sash windows. Above the entrance is a single central sash window, which has decorative ashlar scrolls at each corner. Two consoles support a slightly projecting hood adorned with decorative strapwork, and on either side of this hood are two smaller sash windows. All windows feature raised ashlar eared surrounds with keystones.
