Description
The Headmaster's House, built around 1860, is located on Riding School Road in the Welbeck Estate Village. This house is constructed of ashlar stone and features a shaped tile roof with a decorative copper ridge and four ridge stacks. The gables are coped with kneelers and have mannerist style orb finials. A moulded eaves band runs along the roofline, and the house is set on a plinth.
It has two storeys plus an attic and consists of five bays. The central and outer bays project and are gabled, with the central gable being shaped. The central bay contains a glazing bar casement window with a glazing bar fanlight, all set within a recessed panel that has a rusticated arched surround and a bracket keystone. To the right, there is a single three-light casement window with stone mullions and a drip mould. On the left side, a doorway features a part-glazed door and overlight, framed by a moulded ashlar surround with a drip mould above.
Each of the outer single bays has a four-light casement window with stone mullions and a drip mould. Above the central bay, there is an oriel casement window with stone mullions and decorative strapwork. Flanking this are two three-light casement windows with stone mullions and drip moulds. In the central apex, a decorative round panel is present, while each outer apex features a single narrow fixed light with a drip mould above. All openings, except for the ground floor center, are framed in flush ashlar quoin surrounds.
