Description
Abbot House and Hamlyn Lodge is a lodge and workshop built around 1860, constructed from ashlar stone. The building features a shaped tiled roof with a decorative copper ridge, three ridge stacks, and a single projecting gable stack at the central gabled bay. The outer stacks have four shafts each, while the central stack has two. The stone-coped gables are adorned with kneelers and mannerist style orb finials, and there is a moulded eaves band set on a plinth.
The structure is two storeys high with an attic and consists of five bays. The outer single bays slightly project and are gabled. There is a central open single storey arcade with three bays, featuring keystones and a strapwork parapet above, which is also topped with two similar orb finials. On either side of the central arcade are single three-bay arcaded porches, each with a strapwork parapet and an inner doorway that has a double part-glazed door flanked by single two-light casements. The outer bays each contain a single four-light casement, while above them are four three-light casements. Each of the outer gables has a single casement in the apex.
Additionally, there are two gabled roof dormers, each with a single two-light casement. To the right, set back, is a single-storey wing with seven bays, featuring four two-light casements—some of which lack glazing—alternating with three Tudor-style arched doorways that have hood moulds. All casements have stone mullions, and all, except for the dormers, feature drip moulds.
