Description
College Hospital, originally a school, was built around 1860 and is constructed of ashlar stone. It features a shaped tiled roof with a decorative copper ridge, four ridge stacks, and Tudor style shafts on the outer stacks, with two on the inner stacks. The building has coped gables with kneelers and mannerist style orb finials, along with a moulded eaves band, and is set on a plinth.
The structure is two storeys plus an attic and consists of five bays. The central and outer bays project and are gabled, with the central gable being shaped. The central bay has a glazing bar casement window with a glazing bar fanlight, all set into a recessed panel with a rusticated arched surround and a bracket keystone. This is flanked by single three-light casements and single four-light casements, all in flush ashlar quoin surrounds with stone mullions and drip moulds.
Above the central bay is an oriel casement window with stone mullions and decorative strapwork above it. This is flanked by single oeil de boeufs in raised ashlar surrounds. On either side, there are two three-light casements in flush ashlar quoin surrounds with stone mullions and drip moulds. The central apex features a decorative round panel, while each outer apex has a single narrow casement in flush ashlar quoin surrounds with drip moulds.
To the left of the building, slightly set back, is an attached stone coped wall with a small casement in a flush ashlar quoin surround. Adjacent to this is a Tudor style, chamfered, arched doorway with a wooden door and a hood mould.
