KIBWORTH HARCOURT CARLTON ROAD (South Side) Kibworth Hall

Hospital, formerly country house. c1825. Buff-brown brick with plinth, stone dressings and ashlar parapet, battlemented in part. Welsh slate hipped roof with various buff-brown brick ridge stacks. Moulded stone cornice. 2 storeys of 7 sash and blind windows. On 1st floor, from left, 2 6/6 sashes, then 4/4, 6/6, 4/4 in central 2 storey canted projection, and 2 blind windows to right. On ground floor 2 6/6 sashes, 4/4, 2-leaved 4-panelled door with wooden panel over and up 2 stone steps, 4/4, blind window, and 6/6 sash. Stone lintels and sills and moulded Tudor hood moulds. Garden front to right is of 2 storeys of 4 6/6 sashes with centre-left, a 2-leaved part-glazed door and overlight. On left end further 6/6 sashes and 2-leaved part-glazed door. Inside are a staircase with wrought-iron balustrade and 2 Corinthian columns on the 1st floor corridor, 6-panelled doors and simple earlier C19 fireplaces. The 2 storey partly C20 wing to rear is not of special interest. V.C.H., Vol. V, and Pevsner.
