Description
Stable Court, dating from the 1860s, is a building constructed from ashlar with a shaped tile roof, coped gables, kneelers, and mannerist-style orb finials. Numerous stacks are present, along with a moulded eaves band set on a plinth. The building has a quadrangle plan.
The south front features eleven bays, with a central projecting gabled bay topped by a decorative cupola and weather vane. This central bay has a large, vermiculated rusticated carriage archway with a keystone. Flanking the archway are single vermiculated rusticated pilasters that support an entablature surmounted by two similar half finials. Either side of the central bay are five blind, rusticated arches with keystones and impost bands. Above these arches are glazing bar fanlights. Above the central archway is a glazing bar sash in a raised ashlar surround with a keystone, decorative ashlar scrolls at each corner, and two consoles supporting a slightly projecting hood, with a clock face set within a raised ashlar surround, with a keystone at each of the cardinal points. Five glazing bar sashes are on either side. The east front also has eleven bays, with central and outer single projecting gabled bays. The central doorway has a panelled door, a glazing bar overlight, and a keystone. It is flanked by single vermiculated rusticated pilasters, single glazing bar marginal sashes, and single larger pilasters. An entablature over this doorway features two similar half finials. Four blind, rusticated arches with keystones and an impost band are on either side, with single glazing bar sashes in matching surrounds to the central doorway. A single glazing bar sash is positioned above the centre, flanked by four glazing bar casements and single glazing bar sashes in similar surrounds. The north and west sides are similar to the south and east sides, with some modifications.
Internally, there is a single central gabled bay on each side, with both floors corresponding to the central outer gabled bays. Several doorways have rusticated surrounds, and many glazing bar sashes are present, including numerous smaller sashes above. All sashes are set in raised ashlar surrounds with eared surrounds and keystones.
