Description
Glass Court, Camelia House, and the tunnel entrance to the rear of Camelia House are mid-19th century structures made of ashlar, iron, and glass. The workshops are a single storey with 18 bays, featuring a slate roof that slopes from the wall behind. There is a tall yellow brick stack on the right and a moulded eaves band. The left 14 bays alternate between 7 doorways with rusticated jambs, flat arches, and keystones, and 7 glazing bar sash windows in raised ashlar eared architraves with keystones. The 15th bay has a large doorway with a part-glazed door flanked by single rusticated pilasters. To the right are two similar sash windows with surrounds, with 20th-century vents below and a small doorway.
Projecting from the left is the glass and iron Camelia House, which is a single storey with 3 bays. Each bay features decorative ironwork and glazing, divided by iron piers, and has 3 arched and traceried fixed lights. The roof is supported by iron piers and brackets, though it lacks much of the glazing and some of the ironwork. The rear entrance has an ashlar wall with a balustraded parapet and a central large carriage archway. This arch is supported by two imposts with a vermiculated console keystone and two similar projecting voussoirs. Below the arch is a double door with remnants of glazing, flanked by two vermiculated rusticated pilasters that support a plain frieze.
