Description

Nos 11-13, Beauclerk House, is a pair of shops and a house, originally a single building, dating from the 18th century with alterations in the 19th century. The brick facade is painted with stucco dressings, and the roof is pantiled with stone coped gables, kneelers, and two gable and one ridge stacks. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and has a six-bay front. A dentillated timber cornice runs along the top. There are three basement lights, two of which are blocked. The central entrance has a half-glazed panelled door, set three steps up, and a traceried fanlight, wooden panelled reveals, and an archivolt. Fluted friezes and an open pediment with dentils and a pattern of pellets and lozenges on the archivolt are incorporated. A 19th century rectangular oriel bay window, supported on carved brackets and with three lights and a deep plain cornice, sits to the right of the door. To the left of the door are two 18th century glazing bar sashes. Further to the left is a mid-19th century shopfront with a central double-glazed hood flanked by large, plain windows featuring carved foliate decoration in the spandrels, a panelled and moulded wooden frame, and a fascia and cornice with large, carved timber brackets at each end. The first floor has six smaller square glazing bar sashes. The lowest three storeys have rusticated, splayed stucco lintels with raised keystones.
