Description
The Old School, built in 1872, is a former school that is now closed. It features red brick construction with ashlar dressings and blue brick polychromatic bands. The roof is patterned slate, with raised stone coped gables and ornate moulded kneelers, as well as a reduced double ridge brick stack. The building has a T-plan layout and includes a bellcote over the doorway.
The front is single storey with two bays and a dentillated eaves course. The right bay projects under a gable and contains a three-light timber window with an ashlar cill and a triangular polychromatic arch, which has a tympanum made of fish scale tiles. Above this window is a vertical ventilation slot. The left bay features a planked door set in a pointed polychromatic arch with a hood mould, flanked by single buttresses. Above the door is a stepped tumbled gable topped with an ashlar coped gabled bellcote, which has ornate kneelers and a tall iron pinnacle. The building is listed for its group value only.
