Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, built in 1859 by James Fowler. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features some patterned diaper brickwork in black headers. The plain tiled roof has decorative ridge tiles and three ridge stacks. The building is two storeys high with a stepped base and a four-bay front arranged under three gables, the central gable having a carved bargeboard, while the other gables are adorned with stepped brickwork.

The off-centre four-panelled door, which has a pointed head, is sheltered by a porch with a pent roof that includes a pointed doorway with an ashlar surround. To the left of the door is a two-light window with a cross mullion and ashlar surround, with a similar window above it. The central gabled bay features a three-light stair window at mezzanine level, with pointed heads to the lights and a moulded pointed arch above. In the gable, there is an ashlar shield bearing the Winchester School motto "Manners maketh man."

To the right, there is a canted bay window with a hipped slate roof, which contains a three-light window with stone mullions and transom in an ashlar surround, and above it is a two-light window with a cross mullion. The garden front has three bays, with the central bay recessed and the end projecting bays gabled.
