Description

The School and School House, built in 1878, is a notable red brick structure featuring black and yellow bands and ashlar dressings, topped with slate roofs that have lead dressings. It includes one external gable and two ridge stacks. The school house consists of two storeys and three bays, with a plinth and polychromatic brick cill bands on the ground and first floors. In the center, there is a triangular-headed archway that leads to a 19th-century planked door with a plain overlight. To the left, a canted bay window has a hipped lead roof, while to the right are triple brick lancets with plain sashes. Above the door, a small pointed window is present, and to the left, a broader gabled lancet projects into the roof as a through eaves dormer, featuring a plain bargeboard and pendant finial. To the right of the door are a pair of lancets with a double bracketed gable above and a pendant finial. Adjacent to the house is the single-storey school block, which has six bays, a plinth, and a polychromatic cill band. The left-hand planked door, adorned with decorative iron hinges, has a pointed plain overlight. To the right are five pairs of windows, with the central pair being lancets set beneath a gable, while the other pairs feature plain facetted ashlar lintels. Above the middle pair of windows is a stone relief carved to resemble a shield, inscribed with "A.D. 1878". A circular capped metal ventilator is located on the ridge of the roof.
