Description

No 13 Market Place is a former coaching inn dating from the late 18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick, with a rendered ground floor, and features some limestone rubble and ashlar. It has a pantile mansard roof with stone coped gables.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a six-bay front with a rubble plinth. Steps lead up to a doorway on the right, which has a plain doorcase, a raised keystone, and a partially glazed door. To the right of the doorway is a three-light sliding sash window, and to the left is another three-light sliding sash. There is a two-light sliding sash to the left with a three-light sliding sash beyond it. All windows feature raised ashlar keystones. Above, to the right, is a three-light sliding sash with two two-light dummy windows to the left. There is another three-light sliding sash to the left and a two-light dummy window beyond it, followed by another three-light sliding sash. All windows have brick wedge lintels and raised ashlar keystones. The roof features three flat-headed dormers, each with two-light sliding sashes.

To the north, there is a single-storey extension with three bays. It has a doorway to the left with a panel door beneath the same wooden lintel as a two-light casement immediately to the left. To the right is a large fixed window with glazing bars and a two-light 20th-century cross mullion casement set in a blocked doorway beyond, with all windows featuring brick wedge lintels and raised ashlar keystones. A three-light sliding sash is located above to the left.
