Description

No. 8 is a house, dating from the 17th century, which was raised and given a new front in the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with an ashlar front, and has a slate roof with raised stone coped gables and two large gable stone stacks. The three-storey, three-bay front has a plain plinth, projecting stone cornice, and parapet. A central panelled door, with a plain overlight, is flanked by single glazing bar sash windows. The first floor has three similar sashes, and the second floor has three smaller sashes. All the window and door openings have shallow cambered heads and raised keystones.

The interior retains a stick baluster staircase with a carved string, and moulded architraves with squares to the angles. In front of the house is a low wall surmounted by cast iron railings with dagger tops, along with matching pedestrian and double access gates which have Gothic details and pierced panels to either side of the pedestrian gate.
