Description

The Market Cross in Corby Glen is a structure dating from the 14th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a 20th-century blue brick base. The cross has a tall octagonal base from the 14th century, which is accessed by four steps. Above this base is an 18th-century square shaft that has shallow stopped chamfers, topped with a moulded cornice and a ball finial. A weekly Thursday market was granted in 1238, but it had ceased by the early 20th century. The Market Cross is also recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
