Description

This building in Market Place, Corby Glen, began as a public house and is now a house. It dates back to the 16th century, with further development in the 17th century, and alterations in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings. It has raised stone coped gables and a pantile roof, featuring two gable stacks: one in ashlar with a cornice, a rebuilt brick stack, and a large axial stack to the rear with a stone base and brick shaft.

The building has a T-shaped plan and a two-story, three-bay front. The central doorway features a 20th-century flush panelled door. It is flanked by single plain sash windows. Above, on the first floor, there are two similar windows. All windows have stone surrounds and flat lintels. At the rear, a section with a steeper pitched roof includes a four-light mullioned window with ovolo moulding and a single light with a moulded stone surround.

Inside, a mid-18th-century panelled corner cupboard remains, featuring fluted pilasters and a cornice. There is also a small, moulded stone fireplace surround. The front section of the building retains a chamfered beam with ogee stops, while the rear section has a deeply chamfered beam with ogee stops.
