Description
The County Primary School and Schoolmaster's House, built in 1871 and enlarged in 1894, is located in Woolsthorpe by Belvoir. This structure features rockfaced ironstone ashlar with limestone ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with stone coped slate roofs that include kneelers and lead ball finials. It has two ridge and a single wall stack, with diagonally set paired ashlar stacks that have deeply moulded cornices. There are also two ridge ventilator turrets with pyramidal roofs and lead dressings.
The building is a single storey with attics and has an eight-bay front. The leftmost bay and the second bay from the right are advanced and have separate gables, with stone dentillated eaves. To the right, there is a half-glazed door with a cornice, while in the advanced bay to the left, there is a large canted bay window with a three-light window above and a gable slot. To the left of this, there is a pair of three-light mullioned and transomed casements with cornices, alongside a pair of tall through eaves and separately gabled three-light transomed windows, with a central three-light window that also has a cornice. In the left-hand advanced bay, there is a doorway with a plaque above it inscribed "Erected AD 1871, enlarged 1894," along with a slot in the gable above.
