Description

The former school and school house, now a house, was built in 1857 and has undergone minor alterations in the 20th century. It features rock-faced limestone with ashlar quoins and dressings, and has slate roofs with raised stone coped gables and paired bracketed kneelers. The building has a single ridge and two gable ashlar stacks with paired funnels and chamfered bases and capitals, and is designed in an L-plan.

The front, which faces the street, is a single storey with seven bays, a chamfered plinth, three stepped buttresses, and a gabled porch topped with a belfry. The off-centre porch includes a chamfered four-centred arched outer doorway and a planked inner door. To the left of the porch are single two and three-light windows, while to the right are a pair of windows and three sets of three. All windows are lancets with trefoil heads and are plain casements. Above the doorway, there is a carved ashlar scroll that commemorates the construction of the school in 1857.

The house is located to the left rear and has a single storey plus attics with a three-bay front. It features a central half-glazed door within a four-centred arched surround, flanked by triplets of lancets that match those of the school. Above the door is a square panel displaying arms. The roof includes two gabled through-eaves dormers with stone coped gables and kneelers, supported on triple rolled corbels, each containing pairs of lancets. All windows in the house are plain casements.
