Description

Kate's Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is pantiled, with raised stone coped gables topped with ball finials and a single axial ridge stack. The building has two storeys plus a garret and presents a four-bay front.

The entrance is off-centre, featuring a four-panelled door. To the left of the door are single windows with two and three lights, while to the right is a single three-light window. On the first floor, there are pairs of two and three-light windows. All the windows are designed with ovolo moulded mullions and moulded surrounds. The left gable has single three-light windows on the lower floors and a two-light window in the gable, all consistent with the other windows.

Attached to the cottage is a single-storey service block, which includes a three-light mullioned window on the left gable and a small fixed plain light on the front. There is also a square ashlar panel with a moulded surround. Inside, the cottage retains features such as chamfered girders and a fireplace bressummer, along with one fireplace that has a plain ashlar surround. An early 18th-century corner cupboard with raised and fielded panelling and a hemispherical top is also present, as well as a clasped purlin softwood roof from the late 18th century.
