Description
The Garages to Culverthorpe Hall is a former service range, now used as garages, dating from the late 17th century with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was built for the Newton family. The structure features limestone ashlar and coursed limestone rubble, topped with a Collyweston slate roof that has raised stone coped gables and single ridge and gable ashlar stack bases.
The building has a T-plan and consists of an irregular two-storey front with seven bays. The central area includes a planked door set within a moulded ashlar surround, flanked on the left by three two-light windows and another planked door with a moulded surround. On the right side, there are two two-light windows and an additional planked door in a plain ashlar surround. The first floor has four two-light windows. All windows are leaded lattice casements with moulded surrounds, cavetto mullions, and moulded cornices.
At the rear, there is a projecting 19th-century gabled wing, along with three sets of 20th-century garage doors. Inside, the building retains two large chamfered segmental arched fireplaces and a clasped purlin softwood roof.
