Description

Culverthorpe Temple is a Grade II* listed building, originally marked on the Ordnance Survey map as St Bartholomew's Chapel, dating from around 1740. Constructed from limestone ashlar, it features a Tetrastyle Ionic portico with a pulvinated frieze and a dentillated pediment. Behind the portico are central double doors consisting of eight raised and fielded panels, set within a moulded architrave that includes a pulvinated frieze, a fluted key block, and a moulded cornice supported by fluted brackets. The temple was built as part of the landscaped park for Culverthorpe Hall, commissioned by the Newton family.
