Description

The Village Hall and School House is a former school and school house, now serving as a village hall and house, built in 1847. It features squared rock-faced ashlar with smooth ashlar quoins and dressings, and has slate roofs with stone-coped gables and crested ridge tiles. A gabled bellcote in the style of the 13th century is attached to the school. The house has two wall stacks and one gable stack, all now in brick.

The school is a single-storey building with a four-bay front, featuring a plinth, stepped buttresses, and an inscribed eaves cornice that reads, "Train up a child, in the way he should go, when he is old, he will not depart from it." It has four paired cast iron latticed and bordered windows with cusped ogee ashlar heads.

The house is designed in a T plan with a two-storey, three-bay front. The left bay is advanced and has a separate gable. The central planked door is set in a chamfered pointed surround and gabled with angle buttresses, above a blank trefoil, and flanked by three-light windows. On the first floor, there is a single two-light window. All windows feature chamfered mullions, cornices, and cast iron latticed bordered casements. To the right, there is a square date panel inscribed "AD 1847" in Roman numerals.
